Monetize Your Blog

Often, there are two types of bloggers. There are those that started on the whole idea of blogging in the beginning just to find a way of making money through it. Then there are those that just wanted to share their knowledge with others for nothing but the fun and interaction with other people in their niche.

Either way, don’t be put off by the idea of monetizing your blog. If you offer great information, advice or entertainment then you have a right to earn a little back from it, even if it only covers your domain and hosting costs.

There are several ways of monetizing your blog. One of the most common and perhaps the simplest of methods is to sign up to a text ads service such as Google Adsense. All you need to do is post some html code into your blog and you’re away.

When people click on to your adverts you earn money. The more traffic that you get to your site and the more people that click your links, the more money you get. Adsense scans your content and tries to find adverts that are suitable for your niche.

Signing up is easy and free but be sure to make sure that your site offers good quality content and has been indexed by Google for at least 6 months, or Google may reject you from joining the Adsense program.

Another way in which you can monetize your site, and will be extremely useful to those that like to make product recommendations, is affiliate marketing. You can join an affiliate program such as Amazon Associates and you can earn a percentage of the sales that are made after someone buys a product after your recommendation. All you need to do is place the html code into your site so that when people click on it and then buy the product that you recommended, you get some commission. If you’re already recommending many products anyway you may as well get paid for it. Google YOUR NICHE and ‘affiliate’ in order to see what products are available that you can promote.

There are also some more conventional ways of making money through your blog. Some people may approach you with a cash offer if you let them put a link or a banner on your site. You can negotiate the costs and how much it should cost per month or even per year, and then you can rake in the cash. Many people want links to their website and they are willing to fork out cash in order to get them.

Another top tip, especially if you don’t feel comfortable with advertising or you don’t necessarily don’t want to promote products on your blog, you can stick a simple PayPal donate button on your site for people to donate to you if they like the service that you are providing and they like reading your blog. You would be surprised at just how generous your readers can be.
